George William Joseph Smith was the son of Albert Smith and Mary Jane Gibson (nee Price). George first enlisted on 4 November 1915 and was discharged on 15 March 1916. He re-enlisted on 19 July 1916. Following Court Proceedings, George was declared a deserter as from 10 April 1917. About 1925 George changed his surname to Gibson and was thereafter known as George William Joseph Gibson.
