James Donald Sutherland Munro, known as Donald, was the second son of Charles Munro and Jane Mary Stocks Sutherland. James came to Australia from London in 1911 and spent time working in Grafton, New South Wales before coming to Brisbane, Queensland. He was single and working as a shorthand writer/typist with the Citizens Military Forces at Victoria Barracks, Brisbane, Queensland, at the time of his enlistment in August 1914. Donald resigned from the Australian Imperial Forces on 16 March 1917 in England and joined the Royal Flying Corps as a Second Lieutenant. Within four months he had been accidentally killed while doing a cross country flight from Yatesbury to Upavon, England at the age of 25. Donald had married Sister Clare Latham who had nursed him in England after he had been evacuated from Gallipoli with Typhoid Fever. Two of his brothers, Christian [3181] who was killed in France and Edward Charles [13629] as well as his father, Charles [1310] also enlisted.Birth date21 July 1892Death date17 July 1917
