For unexampled bravery and devotion to duty in the operations near Zonnebek on 26 September 1917. He was a Company runner and when communications had broken down through being unable to read the lamp through the smoke and dust caused by ours and enemy barrage he without consideration of his own safety ran back to Battalion Headquarters with a most important message. This performance by a very young soldier greatly impressed his comrades and was a great example to them. [Commonwealth Gazatte No.62 dated 19 April 1917].
He married Olive Marion Yarrow on 24 November 1923 and they settled in Toowoomba, Queensland. Just prior to his death, army records indicate he was living in Redcliffe, Queensland.Birth date17 January 1898Death date06 June 1973
