Henry's parents were John Young and Elizabeth Gertrude Protheroe. The Young family was a local pioneering family who resided on the North Pine River. Henry's father, John, served in Redcliffe and Pine Council's. Young's Crossing and Young Street are named after the Young family. Henry attended Short Cut Provisional School. He returned to North Pine after the war ended. He married Edith Lilian Elworthy Kirby in 1936.
