William McPherson was the son of Charles McPherson and Elizabeth Morrow. William was single, living at home with his parents and working as a surveyor when he enlisted in October 1915. William was wounded in action in France in 1916 with a gunshot wound to the spine resulting in paraplegia. He was returned to Australia completely paralysed in his lower limbs and was discharged as medically unfit in March 1917. William married Jennie Helene Wengstad of Caboolture in 1919.
