Arthur and Joe Martin selected Portion 26V Parish of Samsonvale, containing an area of 158 acres 3 roods, on 28 January 1888. The property was at Baxter's Creek. It was sold to Thomas James Rowe in 1934. The Martins were well educated, but their family in England had fallen on hard times and the two brothers were sent to become farmers in the colony where land was cheap.
