TitleHerman Ludwig Kuhn (Senior) and his familyDescriptionHerman Ludwig Kuhn was born on 3 February 1858 at Wurchow, Pomerania, Prussia. His father, Friedrich Wilhelm August Kuhn, died when Herman was only three years old. He had an older sister and three older brothers. His mother, Sophie Henriette Schachtschneider, married widower Michael Gobblieb Raddatz, on 24 July 1863 at Wurchow, Pomerania, Prussia. He had three daughters and two sons. The combined family arrived in Moreton Bay on the Reichstag on 1 January 1872. The immigrant ship was met by a representative of William Henry Day and the family came directly to Terrors Creek (now known as Dayboro) to work on Day's sugar plantation working with the South Sea Islanders in the cane fields. Herman Ludwig Kuhn married Jane Phelan on 20 July 1883 at South Brisbane. Jane Phelan was born in Brisbane on 19 May 1865, to parents William Phelan and Jane McCullogh. Jane died on 18 June 1903 following the birth and death of their youngest child who only lived one day.
