TitleThomas Strain with his wife Emma Strain (nee Henry) and their familyDescriptionThomas Strain was born on 27 June 1841 at Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland, to parents William Strain and Rachael Hart. He arrived in Queensland on the Hannah More in June 1863. On 24 December 1872 Thomas Strain married Emma Henry. Emma Henry was born on 12 July 1853 in County Cavan, Ireland, to parents Robert Henry and Frances Bartram. Emma arrived in Moreton Bay on the Golden Dream on 28 May 1863 with her parents and other family members. Thomas and Emma had a family of ten children. Thomas Strain was one of the earliest selectors at Mt Pleasant. On 30 October 1874 he selected Portion 77 Parish of Pine containing 84 acres and Portion 106 Parish of Pine containing 204 and three quarter acres. He resided on Portion 77 and had a Bailiff in residence on Portion 106. On 13 April 1897 he purchased Portion 23N Parish of Pine (which was transferred to his brother Gabriel in 1898), Portion 11 Parish of Pine, a 95 acre block across the North Pine River from Portion 106 and Portion 92 Parish of Pine, a 195 acre block to the south which had originally been selected by William John McCracken. Thomas Strain disposed of his Mt Pleasant properties in 1900 having on 13 April 1897 purchased the balance of Portion 15 Parish of Samsonvale, containing an area of 80 acres, from William Henry Day. This property was on the southern edge of Terrors Creek township (now known as Dayboro). William Henry Day had donated a small section of Portion 15 for a new school be built as Terrors Creek Provisional School which was being conducted in a barn on nearby property owned by Haagen Raaen. The new school opened in 1878. Thomas Strain died on 21 June 1925 and his wife died on 26 June 1925.
