TitleArcher Street Woodford - looking eastDescriptionThis photograph was taken looking east from the footpath outside the Woodford Post Office located at 113 Archer Street Woodford which is on the eastern corner of the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Archer Street Woodford. This property is located on the northern side of Archer Street. The large building next to the post office with the sign that says Woodford Baptist Church was originally the theatre at Woodford. The new theatre located at 115 Archer Street Woodford was built after the 1937 fire which destroyed Alexandra Hall and the Post Office and the Barber Shop. In 1937 the Alexandra Hall which was owned by R.A. Evans burnt down along with the Post Office and Barber Shop. A new theatre was built to take its place. This being the first building in Woodford specifically designed as a theatre. In the new theatre which was leased by Alec and Jean Marshall twin movie machines gave Woodford theatregoers their first non-stop pictures. The Marshalls (previously from Redcliffe) later bought the theatre.
