Dayboro Cenotaph
DETAILS
TitleDayboro CenotaphAlternative titleAlso known as Dayboro Obelisk, Dayboro War Memorial or Dayboro Honour MemorialDescriptionColumn with dome on top and unusual rifle and ammunition belt carving, with pillars and crossed flags, set on a white painted stepped base. The monument was originally located off the road, set on a grass strip beside the driveway on Dayboro State School grounds at 58 McKenzie Street. It was unveiled by Mr R J Warren MLA on Thursday November 18, 1920. Inscription reads: Erected by the residents of Dayboro and District. Honour Memorial 1914-1919. Died on Service, and lists 49 names, 15 of whom made the supreme sacrifice. Mason: Henry Payne, Brisbane. Dedicated between 1920- 1923. In 2012 the Cenotaph was relocated to Crown Land at Roderick A Cruice Park in Williams Street in order to accommodate the increase in Anzac Day attendance numbers and to give the cenotaph a more prominent position in the centre of town, beside Hay Cottage and in front of the swimming pool.
