Albert's parents were John Skinner and Amelia Josephine Ebert. The Ebert family was one of Lawnton's pioneering families. As Albert was under age he had to wait until he turned 18 before he could enlist. His parents then gave him permission to enlist. He then enlisted in July 1918 but by the time his training was completed the war had ended so he was never posted overseas.
