Alexander's parents were Alexander Wightman and Jane Horne. Alexander was in the Citizen Forces for six months prior to war. He was living at Bunya and working as a stockman when he enlisted on 31 August 1915 at Brisbane. He embarked for overseas on 8 February 1917 on board HMAT Wiltshire. He returned to Australia and worked as a carter, then a mechanic. He married Betsy Maud Milne in 1926. They lived at Newmarket for many years. His younger brother James Johnston [1924] enlisted and returned to Australia at the end of the war.Death date23 January 1974
