"Pte. Skerman showed great daring and skill in the Bombing operations especially when the leading party were temporarily held up by enemy machine gun fire. He was largely instrumental in forcing the enemy to evacuate. Afterwards, when all the stretcher bearers, with the exception of one, had been either killed or wounded, he volunteered for and carried out the duties of a bearer, carrying wounded men under very heavy artillery and machine gun fire. All through the operations he showed great coolness and devotion to duty."Birth date14 March 1898Death date20 September 1917
