Bernard Patrick Murphy was the third son of William Murphy and Mary Anne Comisky. His mother died in 1903 and his father then married Bridget Hogan and they lived in Caboolture, Queensland. William was the licensed victualler of both the Royal Hotel and the Club Hotel in Caboolture prior to the war. Bernard was single and working as a clerk in Brisbane, Queensland, when he enlisted in October 1915. He joined the Light Horse where his left foot was caught and crushed by a stirrup during action at Romani in August 1916. As the foot never completely healed Bernard was finally discharged as medically unfit in May 1919. After his return he died as a result of a fall during a scuffle in the street in Rockhampton in 1920. Two of his brothers, Henry [4095] who was killed in Belgium and William James [5349] also enlisted.Birth date21 January 1898Death date27 July 1920
