His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Orontes on 23 December 1916. After the war Charles worked as a carpenter at Bunya and was living with his mother and siblings. He married Christina Thrower 14 May 1928, they had no children. Charles enlisted in World War II. Sometime after 1943 Charles moved to South Australia and was living with his sister, Ethel Timms.
