Charles's father died in 1901 and Adeline later married William Bynon in 1905. Charles served in the Queensland Police force for nearly 3 years. His occupation was a farmer when he enlisted 14 June 1915 at Brisbane. He married Julia Agnes Clancy the same year and she was listed as his next of kin on his attestation paper.
