Charles was the son of Charles Munro and Christina Paulsen. He arrived in Australia with his wife, Jane Mary Stocks Sutherland and four of their younger children in 1914. Three of their sons, Christian [3181], Edward Charles [13269] and James Donald Sutherland [82 and 150], also served in World War I but only one of the sons, Edward Charles, was to return. At the time of his enlistment in April 1918 he was almost 50 years of age, and the family lived on their farm Dunbeath, Burpengary, Queensland. Charles joined the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force Army Medical Corps and embarked for Rabaul New Guinea, going via Kokopo on the north east corner of New Britain, German New Guinea, to join reinforcements there. He was later seconded for duty in the Department of Trades and Customs, Rabaul, where he served until 20 May 1919. Charles returned to the family farm at Burpengary until about 1930 when they moved to Taringa in Brisbane, Queensland.Birth date13 May 1868Death date20 May 1947
