Ernest Henry was the son of James Frederick Martin and Esther Fowler who resided at Woodford, Queensland. He first attempted to enlist in September 1914 but was discharged because of parental objection. In September 1916, he enlisted for the second time at the age of 22 years, working as a labourer and living in Woodford, Queensland. Prior to coming home, Ernest married Bertha Elizabeth Bailey at Haggerston, Middlesex in May 1919, however, this marriage was dissolved as Bertha was already married. After the war Ernest then married Ivy Mathews in December 1920 and they resided at Woodford, Queensland. Two older brothers also enlisted, Thomas Andrew [880] who was killed in France and Frederick John Martine [1552].Birth date29 September 1894Death date07 October 1959
