Forbes Strachan Smith was the son William Henry Smith and Jane Strachan who resided at Woodford, Queensland. He was 24 years old, working as a grocer and living in Kilcoy, Queensland when he enlisted on 13 September 1915. Forbes returned to Australia and was discharged medically unfit on 1 July 1918. After the war Forbes was employed as a grocer's assistant in a store at Woodford Road, Caboolture. He married Lavinia Rowlands on 2 January 1924 at St John's Cathedral in Brisbane, Queensland. Forbes was manager of a number of stores in various parts of rural Queensland and finally settled in Kedron, Queensland.
