Name Frank Leonard Rowe, 1894 - 1963BiographyDate of Birth: 1894, Southwark, London, England Date of Death: 3 January 1963, Poole, Dorset, England Buried: 8 January 1963, Gussage All Saints, Dorset, England Frank Leonard Rowe was the son of John Rowe and Kate Florence Shepherd. He was single, working as a farm hand and living in Burpengary at the time of his enlistment in September 1915. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT Kanowna on 29 March 1916. Frank was awarded the Military Medal: On 10th June, 1918, at Morlangcourt near Albert when the 7th Aust. Inf. Brigade carried out their successful attack, these two men (Privates Harriner & Rowe) worked continuously for fourteen hours carrying stretcher cases from the Regimental Aid Posts to the Relay Post, through very heavy shell fire. At one stage the other two men of their squad were wounded by shell but Harriner and Rowe continued to carry on for two hours doing the work of four men rather than risk a blockage in the evacuation of the wounded. They showed exceptional bravery and devotion to duty. [Commonwealth Gazette No.23, dated 12 February 1919] Frank returned to Australia on 29 November 1919 with his wife, Dorothy Gertrude Gibbs, whom he married in Tulse Hill, London, England on 23 June 1919.
