Gabriel's parents were Gabriel Strain and Jessie Ann McCaskill. The Strain family were early pioneers of the area. Gabriel was living at Laceys Creek with his parents prior to the war, he was a farmer. He enlisted on 11 August 1915, his unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 3 January 1916. After the war Gabriel went back to farming and living at Terrors Creek. He married Helene Rahe, who was from a local pioneering family in 1920 at Brisbane. His brother Thomas Alexander [3536A] enlisted as well, he returned home.Birth date11 December 1896Death date22 July 1995
