His father had died in 1903 and his mother then married Owen Edward McManus in 1918. George was single, living in Caboolture and employed as a labourer with his cousin, George Henry Wallace, at the time of his enlistment in November 1915. He nominated his sister, Elizabeth, as next of kin. George was wounded in a bombing raid near the Railway depot one mile east of Poperinghe, Belgium, and died at the age of 19 years.
