He married Amelia Day in 1900 and they came out to Australia where they eventually settled at Redcliffe. George, a council worker, enlisted in May 1917 aged 49 with John Tebby a fellow council worker. Embarking on the Clan McGillivray a few days later, George went to work at the Vickers munitions factory in Sheffield, England. After months of ill health he returned on the Homeward to Australia October 1918 and remained in hospital until January 1919 when he returned to civilian life.Birth date10 December 1893Death date02 June 1953
