He came from a large family of nine children. There were six brothers of which the three youngest enlisted in September 1916. The two other brothers were Archibald Septimus [632] and Sydney Herbert [3327]. Harold Ivo was single, working as a shop assistant and living in D'Aguilar, Queensland when he enlisted. After the war he lived with his brother, Sydney at Brackenridge, Queensland, until he married Mary Burley in 1923.
