James Charles Barron, son of James Charles Barron and Rebecca Vingola, is said to have been born at sea. His father was a sea captain. Young James Charles married Sarah C May in Broken Hill, New South Wales, in 1901. James Charles was a widower living at Burpengary, Queensland, when he enlisted on 10 February 1916. He was 44 years old and worked as a railway platelayer. James suffered trench fever while serving in France and was returned to Australia on 31 October 1917 because of his age and debility. His daughter, Sarah Caroline, was listed as next of kin.Death date22 January 1919
