James Charles Edward Osmond was the son of George Henry Osmond and Sarah Anne Withers who lived at Woodford. He came to Woodford when his father, a school head teacher, was transferred there in 1909. After leaving school James worked at the Woodford butter factory and obtained his milk and cream testing certificate from Queensland Agricultural College, Gatton, in July 1915. James was single, working as a cream tester and living at Woodford when he enlisted in November 1915. Corporal Osmond, aged 21 years, was killed in action whilst engaged on patrol work in the operations near Bray and was buried by members of the 42nd Battalion.Birth date27 October 1897Death date25 August 1918
