James was the son of William Henry Goodwin and Ann Tuck. He was 22, single and working as a farm labourer when he enlisted on 16 September 1915. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT Commonwealth on 28 March 1916. He was wounded in action in France and had been invalided to England to recover in April 1918. During this time, he married Florence Mary Craft in Harefield, Middlesex in August 1918. After the war the couple took up residence in Indooroopilly, Queensland. James' brother, Robert William (6186) had also enlisted.Birth date23 May 1896Death date09 May 1964
