James's parents were Robert Leitch and Jane Foster. The Leitch's were a pioneering family of Albany Creek, who first arrived in Queensland in 1863. James's occupation on enlisting 26 September 1916 at Brisbane was a Railway Fireman. He was wounded in the right shoulder on the 4 July 1918 and taken to Rouen. James returned home to Australia.
