James was the son of Joseph Wilson and Eliza Jane Irving. His father had died in 1905 in Candelo, New South Wales, and his mother had moved to Woodford, Queensland, sometime after his death. He was single and farming in Woodford at the time of his enlistment in 1915. James was killed in action aged 27 and a memorial was erected near Pozieres, Albert Bapaume area, Somme for members of the 9th Battalion who fell on 10 August 1918 and his name is listed on the headstone. Two of his brothers, Jack [2000], and Edward [3504] had enlisted.Birth date16 October 1889Death date11 August 1918
