James's parents were John Young and Elizabeth Gertrude Protheroe. The Young family was a local pioneering family who resided on the North Pine River. Henry's father, John, served in Redcliffe and Pine Council's. Young's Crossing and Young Street are named after the Young family. James attended North Pine State School. He enlisted 18 August at Brisbane. He was seriously wounded in action June 1918 with a gunshot wound to the spine. He was repatriated back to Australia and was confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He married Lillian Gladys Powell in 1927 at Brisbane.Birth date17 July 1895Death date14 April 1936
