John Andrew Turnbull was the fourth son of William James Turnbull and Ellen Jane Gartlan. His mother resided at Burpengary, Queensland and the father had deserted his family. John was single, working as a horse dealer and living in Brisbane, Queensland when he enlisted in January 1916. After the war he lived with his mother in 1925 farming in Cooroy, Queensland. John married Olive Amy Knowles on 10 April 1926 and they moved to Brisbane, firstly to Bulimba then Hendra and Albion. John worked as a carpenter. Their marriage did not last and in 1949 he was living in Wilston. John remarried and the Electoral Rolls of 1968 to 1980 he is living at Wavell Heights with Ina Olive Hazel. Three other brothers, Joseph Henry [3945], Thomas [676] and William James [5482] also enlisted. Joseph and Thomas both died overseas. One of his sisters, Ellen Jane married Arthur Henley [5381] also from Burpengary.Birth date06 June 1899Death date28 September 1982
