John Frederick's parents were Stephen Bakey and Annie Bourke. He was working as a labourer and was living at Taringa when he enlisted on 17 August 1915. He embarked on 30 November 1915 from Sydney on HMAT Suffolk A23 with the 15th Infantry Battalion. John was killed in action 7 August 1916 in France aged 36. John Frederick's nephew, William Joseph [2622A] also enlisted, he settled in Caboolture. The entry on the Honour Board was probably intended to be a reference to "a family member" of a man who settled in the district. The name of the wrong uncle was inscribed
John Frederick is incorrectly listed on the Caboolture and Narangba Honour Boards as E Bakey. Edward Bakey died suddenly in 1905.Birth date21 January 1880Death date07 August 1916
