Buried: Dalby Cemetery John Lewis Shetland was the son of William Henry Schattling and Martha Buckby. His mother had died in 1883 and his father had moved up to Herberton, Queensland, working for Great Northern tin mine when he was quite young. John was 37 years old, working as a miner and living in Nymbool, Queensland, when he enlisted in Cairns in September 1916. After the war he married Mary May White in Herberton in December 1919. He was part owner and for many years manager of the Cornishman tin mine at Herberton. Two of his cousins, Clarence Norman Buckby [4084] and Edwin Audrey Buckby [18] also enlisted.Birth date06 January 1879Death date18 May 1935
