John Makinson was the son of John R Makinson and Catherine Gissell of Dungog, New South Wales. He was single and working as a sawyer at the time of his enlistment in June 1915. According to the Electoral Roll for 1913 he was living at Coochin Creek, Beerwah, Queensland, and was still listed on the 1917 Roll indicating he had moved to Woodford at some point. He was killed in action aged 25 years in 1916.Death date23 July 1916
