John Tebby was born in England about 1868. His parents were Thomas Tebby and Jane Brooks. He came out to Australia on the ship Tara and arrived in Brisbane 1890. John married Keturah Dunlop in 1893 in New Zealand and by 1903 they were living at Woody Point.
John was employed by the council when he joined the war effort as a munitions worker in May 1917, aged 46, together with fellow worker, George Carpenter. He embarked on the Clan McGillivray three days later in May 1917 and began work 31 July 1917 with Messrs Ambrose Shardlow & Co Sheffield. He later transferred to Messrs Howell & Co Wincobank Sheffield before returning to Australia 24 Dec 1918. His son John Thomas Tebby [1663] also enlisted.Death date16 February 1935
