Alfred's parents were William Mudford Best and Clara Gibbs. Alfred enlisted in November 1916. On his return from the war Alfred married Annie Christine McNaught in 1919. The McNaught family owned land at Woody Point in the early days and Mr McNaught took the services in the Redcliffe Congregational Church.
