Martin enlisted at Brisbane on 17 April 1916. He is listed on Terrors Creek Electoral Roll on 9 September 1911. Later records show him as a butcher and bookkeeper. He was employed by Cruice Bros. Butchers at Terrors Creek. He never married and had a close friendship with William Cruice the Cruice family was well known pioneers who lived in the area.
