Richard's parents were Herbert Richard James and Elizabeth James who were living a Harrisons Pocket, via Strathpine, Queensland. He was single, living at Harrisons Pocket and working as a carpenter when he enlisted in October 1914. Richard attained the rank of Sergeant and received the Military Medal. After the war he returned to Australia and settled in Caboolture, Queensland. He married Ethel Amelia Hubner in Brisbane in 1919. Richard's younger brother Ernest [4211] enlisted as well.
The second supplement No. 30507, to the London Gazette dated 4 February 1918, contains an entry to the effect that Sergeant Richard James, Light Horse Regiment had been award the Military Medal for bravery in the field.Death date07 September 1967
