Richard's parents were Richard Tanner and Margaret Bell. He married Margaret Glass McCaul in Queensland in 1898 and they were living in Goondiwindi when Richard enlisted at age 45 in July 1915. Richard was killed in action in July 1916. After Richard's death Margaret moved to Redcliffe where she began business as a storekeeper.Death date19 July 1916
