Charles Henry Smith was the son of James Henry Smith and Emily Edith Warren. He was 20 years old, working as a plumber and living at Woodford at the time of his enlistment on 2 September 1914. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT Star of England on 24 September 1914 and Charles returned to Australia on 26 December 1918.
