Born Robert Charles, Bert was the son of George Henry Wicks and Elizabeth Beeston. He was 18 years and working as a bank clerk when he enlisted 29 July 1915. He married Ellen Isabella Jenkinson who lived in Caboolture, Queensland, in August 1915 and she was living in Woodford, Queensland, at the time of his death. Gunner Wicks was in a Pill Box dug out with other men near Hell Fire Corner in the Ypres area when an enemy light explosive shell hit the dug-out. He was buried close to the dug-out. He was later exhumed and re-interred in Birr Cross Roads Cemetery.Birth date22 June 1897Death date04 September 1917
