He married Florence Mary Ruffles in 1915 and they had one child when Robert enlisted 3 May 1917. After enlisting Robert was transported to New South Wales. After a detailed medical study Robert was discharged as medically unfit on 27 September 1917. Died 4 April 1960, Brisbane.
