Robert's parents were William Robert Lincoln Whitten and Elizabeth Graham. Robert was head teacher in 1916 at Parker School near Samford. He applied for leave of absence from Education Department to join the army. Robert enlisted 24 July 1916 at Marrickville, New South Wales. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A67 Orsova on 29 July 1916. He returned in 1919 to resume his duties at Parker State School. Robert married Lily Florence Hastings Warren 1 January 1923. He is listed on the Samford Honour Roll as Whitten, E.Birth date12 March 1892Death date14 June 1959
