Robert's parents were William Laird McConnell and Marion Agnes Bowman, they lived at Strathpine. His family had come from Ireland and moved for several years to Glasgow in Scotland and finally immigrated to Australia in 1910. Robert was the oldest of four children and was working as a carpenter when he enlisted on 22 June 1915 at Brisbane. After the war Robert was living with his brother at Belmont, he was a builder. Robert's younger brother Samuel [497] served in the war.Death date14 July 1954
