Samuel Michael was the son of Samuel Thomas Denford and Maria Kenny. His mother died when he was about 4 years of age, his father re-married Catherine Kenny and they were living at Bellthorpe, Woodford, Queensland in 1916. He was single, working as a labourer and living at Bellthorpe when he enlisted in January 1916. Samuel returned to Bellthorpe and married Agnes Drusilla Merle Phillips in September 1921 and they moved to Mullumbimby, New South Wales, around 1930. His two older brothers, Harold Ernest [3345] and Stanley Kenny [3350] also enlisted.Birth date06 September 1895Death date08 August 1980
