Buried: 12 May 1928, Apple Tree Creek Cemetery, Childers, Queensland Samuel was the son of Joshua Rothery and Anne Hoare. He was 42 years old and farmed in Cordalba, Queensland when he enlisted in October 1916. Samuel's unit embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT Marathon on 27 October 1916 and he returned to Australia for discharge on 27 November 1917. Samuel had nominated his sister, Mrs Alice Peterson of Charters Towers, Queensland, as his next of kin. He returned to Cordalba and remained there until he purchased property just outside Childers, Queensland in about 1927. Samuel's new home and most of his possessions were destroyed by fire on 12 May 1927 and within 12 months he had died.Birth date02 October 1878Death date11 May 1928
