Edward was born in Goondiwindi. His parents were Richard Carr and Annie Maria Fox. He married Lily Turner, a girl from Redcliffe whose parents were William (a grocer) & Sarah Turner in 1915. Edward enlisted in 1915 and Lily returned home to live with her parents at Redcliffe while Edward was in the Army.
