He was 26, single and working as a labourer when he enlisted under the name of Otto Ernest in August 1915. Otto embarked with his unit on board HMAT Seang Bee A48 from Brisbane in October 1915. He was wounded in action in France and was taken prisoner by the Germans. During his imprisonment his left leg was amputated. On his return to Australia he married Catherine Josephine Farry, of Burpengary in December 1919. According to the Electoral Rolls just prior to the war Otto had been living in Morayfield, Queensland.Birth date14 June 1889Death date06 March 1949
