William's father was William Highfield and his mother Ivy Greenup. William Edgar was single and a Jackaroo when he enlisted and was living with Ivy's parents, Edgar Brodie Greenup and Emily Hollingworth, at Darcey Hey, Redcliffe. After the war William married Stella Isabel Mary Donaldson in 1930 and they lived on Medway Station, Bogantungan, for many years.
