William was the son of Edward Henry Freeman and Janet McGill who lived at Toorbul, via Caboolture, Queensland. He was 25 years old, a fisherman living at Toorbul when he enlisted in September 1916. Younger brother, Edward Henry [2987] also enlisted. William returned to Toorbul and continued on as a fisherman after the war, marrying Jessie Buckby in 1920.
